ComSciCon-Triangle provides a unique professional development workshop for graduate students engaged in and committed to communicating research. Their goal is to empower future leaders in technical communication to share the results from research in their field to broad and diverse audiences, not just practitioners in their fields.

About SkunkSpeak

SkunkSpeak is SCONC’s new bimonthly speaker series where our members take the mic to share their career journeys, creative processes, and hard won skills.

Speaker Bio

Our inaugural speaker is Marley Parker, a photographer, videographer, writer, and ocean explorer who's spent nearly a decade aboard expeditions with NSF, NASA, NOAA Ocean Exploration, WHOI, and the Ocean Exploration Trust. Her work has appeared across numerous outlets from CNN to The New York Times to a TED Talk at the National Academy of Sciences.

Since becoming a full-time independent contractor in 2018, she has joined over two dozen ocean science expeditions on various research vessels in the Pacific, the North Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Antarctic Peninsula.

A life-long storyteller, Marley honed her writing and photography skills as a student at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, where she also learned audio and video production. She graduated with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Spanish.
