Join us for this special hybrid event with Drs. Sid Roy and Jennifer Hoponic Redmon! This event is being hosted in person at RTI's Holden MPR Room A and online via Zoom.

Contamination of drinking water, whether perceived or real, harms the health, productivity, and well-being of individuals and communities. Sid Roy's public scholarship is driven by a deceptively simple question, “Is my water safe to drink?” and seeks to unravel mysteries of scientific and societal relevance around water infrastructure and public health using field, experimental, medical, survey, geospatial, in silico and social media data. In this talk, Sid will share findings from exemplar investigations conducted during and in the aftermath of the 2014-15 Flint, Michigan Water Crisis.

Siddhartha Roy is an environmental engineer and research associate at the UNC Water Institute, where he works in the areas of water quality, public health, citizen science, international development and environmental justice. He previously co-led the Virginia Tech research team with Dr. Marc Edwards, alongside residents of Flint Michigan, that blew the whistle on the Flint Water Crisis.

Jennifer Hoponick Redmon is the Environmental Health and Water Quality Director at RTI International. Her educational background integrates the scientific and policy areas of environmental chemistry, toxicology, risk assessment, environmental policy, and natural resource management, with dual Master’s degrees in Environmental Science and Public Administration from Indiana University. At RTI, Redmon ideates, develops, and leads multi-disciplinary and community-engaged research projects.
