Welcome to Science by the Slice! We're excited to host this hybrid event. We'll meet either online or in in-person at 700 Park Offices Drive, (behind the Boxyard) to hear this month's speaker while we enjoy pizza, but space is limited. Online viewers will join live remotely via Sigma Xi's Facebook page. A zoom link will also be sent out to registered attendees.

Social Media & Science Misinformation: Practical Strategies for Scientists
NOTE: This talk will run from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
About the talk
As misinformation increasingly shapes public understanding of science, researchers are no longer just knowledge creators—they are essential communicators. This workshop equips academics to use social media strategically without becoming “influencers.” Participants will learn
how platforms function, how to select low-risk, high-impact engagement strategies, and how to respond to misleading claims clearly and responsibly.
Grounded in real-world examples from science communication, the session emphasizes practical, sustainable approaches that align with professional norms. Attendees will leave with ready-to-use tools, templates, and a realistic plan for sharing credible science, maintaining trust, and navigating online spaces shaped by misinformation.
