Welcome to Science by the Slice! We're excited to host this hybrid event. About the talk

Dr. Matt Bertone will discuss his role as an identifier of insects, other arthropods, and other organisms submitted to a state diagnostic lab by clients from various walks of life. He will introduce diagnostics as a necessary discipline and discuss the good, bad, and weird things about his job.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Matt Bertone is an entomologist who specializes in arthropod biodiversity, taxonomy, and systematics. He is the diagnostic entomologist and director of the NC State Plant Disease and and Insect Clinic at North Carolina State University, where he identifies arthropods for clients and trains extension personnel on insect identification. Matt is also an avid macro-photographer, taking images for both professional purposes and for pleasure.
